There are dozens of reviews commenting on how dark this speaker is before break-in, and I have to agree. 40 hours of break-in seems to be the consensus, so I have been running a looped phrase through the speaker. I think that will make the same amp something like 2x as loud or more. So if you play mainly at home, with the C-Rex you will have a very loud and very clean amp. With the stock speaker you'll get more of the natural breakup at somewhat lower volumes.

WebOct 25, 2024 · The Cannabis Rex is the clean, loud, jazz speaker... thick, loud, and clean. I use it for those qualities is several of my amps. The Princeton Reverb is a favorite; although not one of mine. The C-Rex will make a PR65 louder, bassy-er, and add bit of headroom. My personal opinion is that the PR65 may not be loud enough.
WebOct 4, 2016 · Finally, after reading many, many reviews, I decided to try the Cannabis Rex, which uses a hemp cone. The Cannabis Rex has a very distinguishable difference in sound from the Celestion. The high and mids are tamed, but it seems louder than the Celestion. It's smoother, closer to the sound of an ES-335 through an amp.
WebJul 9, 2008 · It was a really sweet amp before, now with these speakers, another level entirely. They're not dark so much as smooth. If the amp is already dark, you maybe should try something else. But as long as there's a reasonable amount of treble on tap, it will likely work.
